If summer is our favorite season, it’s not least for the range of activities it has to offer. We spend most of our time outdoors, taking advantage of the mild weather and taking care to replenish our vitamin D levels. The days are longer, so we can enjoy them later in the day. We’re going to show you some of the best ways to spend your summer. Memories guaranteed!
1. Water activities
Summer is often synonymous with water activities, especially in the middle of a heatwave. Water is a great way to cool off and has many virtues. You can take advantage of it to :
- Explore the lakes with a paddle,
- Try your hand at kayaking or canoeing,
- Enjoy the thrills of jet-skiing or wakeboarding,
- Enjoy a stroll along a lake or body of water and sail aboard a boat.
Places not to be missed :
- Wakeboard: Grevenmacher (Luxembourg)
- Canoeing or kayaking: Rosport or Wasserbillig (Luxembourg)
- Aquacentre les Lacs de l’eau d’Heure, Froidchapelle (Belgium)
2. Summer excursions
Every summer is the perfect time to take part in original outdoor excursions, such as wilderness camping to reconnect with nature, a full day’s fun at an amusement park, or a visit to one of the magnificent wildlife parks, brimming with wild animals in their natural habitat.
Places not to be missed :
- Bivouac: Grande Forêt de Saint-Hubert (Belgium)
- Wildlife park: Parc Merveilleux (Luxembourg)
- Amusement park: Walibi Belgium (Belgium)
3. The day
This is the time when we can most enjoy and appreciate the long summer days, although activities can vary depending on the weather. If the heatwave sets in, we’ll prefer air-conditioned places, like a good film at the cinema, a visit to the museum or a walk in the forest under the shade of the trees. But what we enjoy most on a hot summer’s day is a refreshing dip in the pool, or a trip to the beach for the lucky ones.
4. In the evening
Finally, the days are endless, and all we can think about is prolonging the pleasant moments, especially on a balmy summer’s evening. There’s just as much to do as during the day, from barbecuing with friends or flatmates, to dining on the terrace of a good restaurant while enjoying fine food, to the open-air cinema now on offer in many towns. This is also the time for open-air guinguettes, where we spend the night dancing until the moonlight. In the evening, anything’s possible, from the famous midnight swim to a night under the stars.
Places not to be missed :
- Rooftop of the Mama Shelter (Luxembourg)
- Kinograph, See U (Brussels)
- Restaurant le Flore (Brussels)
5. Timeless activities
There’s no shortage of activities for groups during the summer season. There’s always something to do, and everyone’s always up for a team game of pétanque, for example, or a good game of molky, its successor. Why not organize a picnic to enjoy the surrounding nature, or plan an outdoor sports tournament such as soccer, beach volleyball or racketball?
Finally, the most important thing is to take advantage of the beautiful moments that summer can offer us, this very special season that leaves us with beautiful memories before giving way to autumn and its beautiful colors.
