4 reasons to adopt coliving

Coliving is confirming its position as one of the preferred lifestyles for young professionals. It has a number of advantages that particularly appeal to the younger generation. We can classify the reasons for adopting coliving into 4 categories: economic, organizational, ecological and human. Let’s take a quick look at these categories.

Economic reasons

Housing is becoming increasingly difficult, especially in big cities. Even if you earn a good living, finding a clean, large enough home in a pleasant neighborhood is a challenge. As a result, many young working people find themselves living in very small or dilapidated apartments, or in decent accommodation far from the city center. Coliving offers comfortable accommodation in designer apartments or houses, in the trendiest neighborhoods. Today, it’s often the only way to get a large living space at a reasonable price.

Organizational reasons

With coliving, everything is included, so you don’t have to worry about a thing. First of all, the apartment or residence is fully furnished and equipped, for both private and communal areas. You don’t have to worry about buying furniture, crockery, an oven… Everything is already there, and in most cases, the equipment is state-of-the-art.

When it comes to contracts to sign, subscriptions to take out, bills to pay and accounts to open, forget it! With coliving, you pay a sum including the rent plus all charges and services: electricity, heating, water, internet, cleaning of common areas, gardening… Everything is included so that you have no unpleasant surprises and can think about something other than paperwork and bills.

Ecological reasons

It’s less often mentioned, but coliving is to apartments what buses are to private cars: it helps reduce carbon footprints. In fact, coliving allows you to pool resources, not just housing but also furniture and equipment. Individual dwellings multiply the number of washing machines, televisions, vacuum cleaners and other equipment that, in the end, are only used for a few hours a month. Coliving reduces the number of such items.

In some residences, we go even further by creating a shared vegetable garden, for example, and also by sharing food. Cooking for several people using local produce is cheaper, healthier and much more environmentally friendly than reheating an industrial dish in the microwave!

Human reasons

All these reasons count when you choose to live in coliving, but the reason that comes first is human. In our ultra-connected world, when it’s time to go home in the evening, we often find ourselves alone. Tiredness and remoteness mean that even if you have friends in the same city, you won’t make the effort to go out and find yourself alone. With coliving, there’s always someone to have a drink with or talk about your day. But if you don’t want to see anyone, you can also stay in your own private space. Coliving residences are like a second family, where you can forge strong bonds with the people with whom you share part of your daily life. A real sense of solidarity and mutual support develops, and these are values that count.
