Living in a coliving apartment: discover Antoine’s experience

At Flexiroom, our residences are all cozy and located in sought-after neighborhoods. But each has its own character, much like our residents. We asked Antoine, who has been living in our X Septembre residence in Luxembourg for over a year, to tell us about his experience.

Antoine, why did you decide to move into coliving?

As a student, I lived in a shared flat for several years and I liked the idea. I like community life. But there were often tensions over who paid for what, or over cleaning, and it was tiring. When I started working, I was in Paris. I moved into a studio to be more independent. I was making a pretty good living, but in Paris, housing is unaffordable. My studio was small and out of the way, so it wasn’t great. A year ago, I found a job in Luxembourg. I didn’t want to be on my own and I wanted to have comfortable accommodation. Coliving was an obvious choice.

How did your booking go?

Great! Already, when I started looking for accommodation, there were quite a few restrictions linked to Covid. I had found several residences in Luxembourg, including one at Flexiroom. I used the site’s contact form and was soon called back. The person on the other end of the line was very friendly and professional. She gave me a virtual tour of the residence I liked and answered all my questions. I had no more doubts. I sent in the necessary documents, such as my ID, work contract, rental deposit and signed rental contract, and that was it!

Describe your home

I didn’t want to be with lots of people, but I wanted to be in a family environment, as if I were a member of a large family. That’s why I turned to the Belair residence. It’s a big house with 6 bedrooms and a studio, the perfect size for me! What’s more, it has a gym and a garden. After several years in the city without even a balcony, having a garden with a barbecue was a dream come true for me. My job is stressful and time-consuming, so I wanted to be able to have a relaxing place in which I could feel good.

What do you like best?

There are two things I really like. The first is the quality of the accommodation. It’s superbly equipped, the rooms are well decorated, and everything has been thought out to make life easier for us. And as the rent is all-inclusive, even including cleaning in common rooms, I don’t have to worry about paying the bills. What’s more, should any problems arise, the Flexiroom team is extremely responsive.

The second is my roommates. I got on well with them straight away. We speak French, English and Spanish, a real Tower of Babel. We each have our own character and way of life, but day-to-day life goes smoothly. We have our own bedroom when we want a bit of privacy, and all the other rooms for communal living. This doesn’t mean that we eat all our meals together, but we all like to get together from time to time.

What if I had to do it all over again?

As I didn’t know anyone in Luxembourg, this coliving residence was great for making my first friends and allowing me to concentrate on my work without all the hassle of moving in. With Flexiroom, choosing the residence, booking and fitting it out were child’s play. If I had to do it all over again? I’d do it all again!
